This handwoven Kilim Afghan is a wonderful and unique piece of art. Hard to believe that these modern colours and patterns have already been used centuries ago. This carpet has been woven by hand in old tradition in Afghanistan. It delivers a portion of contemporary history, which you won't find in this specific design a second time. It consists of high-grade natural wool and gives your home a personalised touch.

Kilim

These Kilim rugs have one key difference compared with hand-knotted rugs - they are hand-woven. As a result, they do not have a raised wool pile and are often flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. Their construction is less intricate, which means they are generally much more affordable. Another advantage is that Kilim rugs are much lighter and can be used on both sides. Hand-woven Kilims originally come from former Persia and are now also widely made in Afghanistan. They tend to feature simple, linear patterns shaped by their weaving technique.

Hand-spun wool

This rug is made from hand-spun sheep’s wool of the highest quality. Wool is still spun by hand, especially in Iran (formerly Persia), Afghanistan and Pakistan, before the actual knotting of the rug begins. Over the centuries, wool has proven itself to be a natural and extremely hard-wearing material. Among other things, it has dirt-repellent and heat-insulating properties. At the same time, wool is incomparably soft and has a natural sheen.

Handwoven

This rug has been handwoven on a loom as a flatweave. Flatweave refers to rugs that have no pile. As the name suggests, these rugs are woven rather than knotted. This results in a flat rug with a textured surface. Flatweaves are not as soft and are usually thinner than knotted rugs. At the same time, they are significantly less complex to produce and can usually be used on both sides (front and back). Their patterns are generally geometric, which is due to the weaving technique.

Care & Fair

Following our ethical principles, we at Nain Trading are declared supporters of the organization CARE & FAIR. The goal is joint action by carpet dealers worldwide to give children from carpet weaver families in India and Pakistan the foundation for socially protected growing up. This improves the situation for the whole family in the long term. A child-friendly childhood for a life worth living - that is the mission.
