These carpets are made in the big city of Malayer, which lays between the famous carpet production regions Hamedan and Sarouk. Malayer and its surrounding villages mostly produce small carpets. You can also find small loafers. The most common patterns are Herati pattern in all over design or with a central medallion.
These handknotted Persian carpets are produced fine and of high quality. The basic colour is mostly a dark shade of blue, which makes the perfect base for golden and brown motifs. Common decorative elemets on Malayer carpets are birds or Boteh. Boteh is a sprouting semen, which stands for the rebirth of nature. The best Malayer carpets are knotted in a village called Mishin.
