This Loom Gabbeh is a handmade rug with a beautiful modern design and great colours. It was knotted by hand in looms in Bhadohi, a small town in India, using high-quality wool. A new type of loom is used to shorten the labour time, resulting in affordable yet high-quality Gabbeh design rugs.


Indo rug

Rug knotters from the former Persia came to India centuries ago to pursue their craftsmanship there. So India today has a far-reaching tradition in rug knotting. The patterns and ornaments are often based on the well-known designs of Persian rugs. Many hand-knotted oriental rugs come from the north of the country. Kashmir silk rugs, for example, come from the Kashmir region, which borders directly on Pakistan.

Bamboo silk

As the name suggests, bamboo silk is a natural fibre from bamboo plants. It is similar to pure silk in terms of softness and shine, but is much more affordable. Thanks to its properties as a natural product, bamboo silk is highly robust.

Loom knotted

Loom rugs are made on looms, on which a pile is made from loops. Instead of knots (see hand-knotted rugs), loops are woven, which later form the carpet pile. Compared to traditional hand knotting, loom carpets can be made with much less effort and are therefore more affordable. Because of their weave, these rugs are also limited to geometric or plain patterns.
