These usually small and handknotted Pesian carpets come from the Hamedan province in western central Iran. You will find them knotted sar-o-nim (90x150cm) or dozar (120x210cm). Bigger carpets are rare.
Of course, it is always interesting if traditions develop inside of specific regions. This has happened in the Hamedan province, which became famous for its Persian carpets and not just inbetween the borders. Jozan carpets are knotted with the robust double knot just like for example Sarough carpets and not with the single knot, which is typical for Hamedan. Therefore, the carpets are very robust. The colours are classic. Red or blue is used, rarer ivory or light blue shades. The usual pattern is a central medallion surrounded by flowers. The handknotted carpets from Jozan are of high quality. The used wool is also of high quality and the colours used are all natural.
