Gabbeh is not just any Gabbeh... and yet they are all somehow "related" to each other. A Gabbeh rug is a hand-knotted rug that achieves a pleasant pile height due to the method of knotting and the associated knot size. The knots are larger than those in a classic Persian rug, which makes the patterns of a Gabbeh rug less intricate and significantly coarser. Despite the larger knots, typically 200,000 to 300,000 knots are tied per square meter, making a Gabbeh extremely robust, while also creating a cozy, firm structure.
