This Nain rug is classified as 12La. Its typical Nain colour scheme gives it an elegant and sophisticated look. This Persian rug was hand-knotted in the city of Nain, which lies on the western edge of the Dasht-e-Kavir desert, using high-quality wool and natural silk. At 12La, it is not as finely detailed with ornamentation as a Nain 9La or 6La.

Iran/Persia, Nain

Rugs from the city of Nain, on the edge of one of Iran’s largest deserts, are among the best-known Persian rugs in the world. Their distinctive design is unmistakable, featuring floral ornaments, a central medallion, and shades of beige with red or blue tones. Thanks to the classifications 4La, 6La, 9La and 12La, the quality of a Nain rug can be recognised at a glance. As a rule, the lower the “La” number, the higher the knot density and therefore the finer the rug.

Natural wool and pure silk

A combination of arguably the finest qualities of sheep’s wool and pure silk. Natural wool is known for its high durability, dirt-repellent properties and thermal insulation. At the same time, the silk content creates a unique sheen that seems to glow from the right angle. Silk embellishments add striking accents to the design, creating a real wow factor. Even today, silk is a symbol of pure luxury. It is painstakingly harvested by hand and woven into textile fibres.

Hand-knotted

Traditionally hand-knotted rugs still represent the highest quality standard among all types of rug. Depending on the knotting technique, these rugs are extremely hard-wearing and can last for generations. The finer and denser a rug is knotted, the more detailed the ornaments and patterns that can be shown in the pile. At the same time, a very fine oriental rug requires significantly more manual work, as well as a higher level of experience and skill from the weaver. Knot density is therefore also a key factor in the value of hand-knotted rugs. However, quality is not directly linked to knot density. A more coarsely knotted rug can still be made to an excellent standard.
