With the Crusades of the 11th century, the first Oriental carpets made their way into the European continent. According to tradition, they were initially used only as wall decorations or table covers, presumably due to their high value and fine ornaments and decorations. Since that time, they have become an integral part of our Western world and have established themselves as symbols of wealth and luxury. We now connect this centuries-old history with the modern design of our era, giving our designer carpets a storied soul. How are our designer rugs created?

Design

Our designers create designs with pen and paper, just as one might imagine. For example, beautiful old oriental ornaments and patterns are combined with timeless geometric elements and brought into the modern world. There are also completely new designs that have no recognizable connection to oriental origins. However, the inspiration remains the same: historically significant designs that have stood the test of time for centuries and are now experiencing a resurgence in popularity.

Digitalize

Once a design is found, it is digitized by our experts and made available in the highest detail fidelity for all subsequent steps. This is an important step in the communication for the selection of materials and the knotting in the Orient.

Material selection

The natural materials are the most important component of the carpet. The design determines which material (new wool, cork wool, silk) will be used for the pile, what the warp under the pile will consist of, and which colors are suitable. Depending on the design or manufacturing method (knotting with pile or weaving as flat weave), various factors are taken into account in the decisions made here.

Manufacturing in the East

The preliminary work has been done, and all the key data is set. Do we now know exactly how the carpet will look in detail? That is not the case, because now an experienced weaver brings his creativity and skill into the carpet after months of work. This gives the carpet its own character with a soul. This is exactly what we particularly appreciate, and we are delighted with a unique piece that will never exist again.
